Paine Scores Debut Century
Off the back of a century by his captain and fellow Tasmanian, Tim Paine scored his first century for Australia in the sixth one-day international against England on Thursday morning.
Paine bid his time and played with precision in setting up Australia’s innings. His 111 came off 148 balls and included one six and 14 boundaries and included a fine 163 partnership with the out of form Mike Hussey.
When Australia’s number one wicket keeper, Brad Haddin returns from injury and with Graham Manou also in the mix, you would assume Pain will be back in Australia playing for the Tassie Tigers. One thing is for sure, his glove work behind the stumps and batting prowess during this series, along with his age has put him in good stead to play in more international games in the future.
“I’ve got to keep scoring runs and keeping well and when Brad comes back we’ll wait and see then,” Paine said. “It’s very important, just to make the most of it. I’ve got a short opportunity here while Brad’s away and he’s the best wicketkeeper-batsman in Australia so he’s going to come back. I guess I was in a bit of a positive situation, I couldn’t really lose, so I’m just trying to enjoy my time until he comes back and still trying to do my role in the team”.
