Your daily fix of Tasmanian Sport

Call Yourself Australian!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is with great disappointment to me, that the amount of criticism that has been levelled at the Australian Cricket team, especially Australian Captain and one of the greatest Cricketers that has ever represented his country, Ricky Ponting.

The situation has been now blown out of proportion by do-gooders and by sports people (way past their used by-date) that have taken an opportunity to get their heads on the TV and in the paper.

Australia has been labelled sooks, cheats and un-sportsman like.  Nothing has been said about the Indian side that has played the game hard, along with the Aussies:

  • The reaction of their players after being given out or not having a decision go their way,
  • Harbhajan Singh’s over the top reaction to the dismissal of Ricky Ponting,
  • The take my bat home home attitude,
  • The annihilation of Steve Bucknors credibility.

This must be the attitude to take when your Cricket board is cashed up to the roof and is pissed off about loosing a game.  You take the good with the bad and when things don’t go your way, you use it to spur you to better things.  Gone are the days that the umpire is all ways right and it in the score book now.  You just have to flex some muscle and start demanding what you want like the Indian Cricket board has.  It worked as the ICC has stepped down on a couple of issues.

Now let’s start on the Indian public.  Burning effigies of players and naming  Donkeys after umpires.  Get’s me thinking; what would happen if we walked through Bourke St mall and burnt a huge Harbhajan Singh doll.  The Do-gooders would go wild, call us racist, try and get us locked up or probably call us green Nazi’s and ask us if the Carbon Dioxide we are creating by burning our effigie of Harbhajan is neutral by carbon offsets.

My message to the Australian Cricket Team:  Bend over and take your spanking, Do not appeal for fear of being labelled Cheats and do not celebrate a wicket or a test win incase you are labelled un-Australian.

I appreciate Australian Cricket for what it is; One of the greatest sporting teams of all time, that play their sport with passion and integrity.  Put it back into context of what it is: Sport, not politics.

Ricky Ponting and his players have done nothing more than play the game to the best of their ability.  How about we show them some respect and start backing them instead of trying to tear them down.   Tall Poppy’s.

Even opposition leader Brendan Nelson has backed Australian Cricketers and Ricky Ponting in this article.  Good on ya Mr Nelson, you have just shown me that you are an Aussie.  Your front runner already for the next election.
